A beautifully cooked steak goes best with a good wine. At the Belfry Steakhouse, our expert servers know their wines and how to pair them to the right dish. Choosing the right wines for steak compliment the flavour of the beef and choosing the right wine can depend on a variety of things from the cut of beef to how it has been aged.
We select our wines to pair beautifully with our dishes and offer you a wide range to accommodate your personal taste.
We offer a comprehensive wine list with wines sourced from all over the globe to suit all tastes. We cater for everything from decadent wines and refreshing craft beers to dazzling cocktails and spirits. Make sure you check our special’s board on the day of your visit for exciting new drinks and cocktails. Take a look at the our drinks menu.
Our Belfry Bar located opposite our steak rooms is a nod to the bar that once occupied the same space from the 1920’s. The Belfry Bar was located in The Old Bell Hotel Derby and was the place to be for up and coming footballers, business people and locals to Derby City.
Now our Belfry bar offers a fine selection of wines, spirits and beers for you to enjoy and gives you the opportunity to explore more of the history of The Old Bell and Derby City centre.
To pick the best wines for steak make a note of how lean the cut is. Fillet and sirloin steak are best paired with a wine that has less tannin and steaks with more fat such as ribeye can handle a more brawny wine.
Steaks that are grilled over hot coals such as our Josper oven pair better with bold flavours such as a Shiraz from California or Australia. Lean cuts of meat are perfect with Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and fatty steaks are best served with a wine that hasn’t been aged for too long. Take a look at our menu to find out more about what steaks we serve.
Other things you should consider include how you like your steak cooked and whether it has been aged. Speak to our friendly servers to find out what wine is best for each dish.
